This Summer we are running a competition to encourage you to get growing your own!
We want you to enjoy the benefits with your family of caring for a seedling, planting it, watching it grow and harvesting its gifts, so we have chosen Giant Sunflower Seeds.

You can get your FREE packet of Giant Sunflower Seeds 1 of 3 ways:
1) Come to one of our Classes during our Earth week theme, week commencing 17th April 2023.
2) Make a purchase from the web shop during that same week.
3) Receive a pack from us at a fair/festival over the Summer or from one of our Community Partners!
All subject to availability.

Sowing information:
Sow the seeds from late spring/early summer by poking them into the soil (why not reuse a mushroom tub from the supermarket to start your seedlings off?) about 3 cm deep and 8 cm apart, keep watered. Keep inside until warm enough and the seedlings are big enough to plant outside into a big pot or vegetable bed with plenty of space between seedlings. Water when needed and watch them grow!
They can be harvested from late summer by cutting the sunflower heads when some of the seeds inside the edges seem ripe and fall away when rubbed, or if the birds have started to harvest them for you and store for next year in a warm, dry place, or use as bird food.
Parental supervision required.

Simply tag us in photos of your growing journey! We aren't looking for the biggest Sunflower, we just want to see how you are enjoying growing your own. Tag us @NatureMakers on Instagram and use #NatureMakersSunflower so we can see them. Everyone that does this will be entered into a competition to win a prize, with one winner being selected at random the last week in August 2023.
